Fundraiser Blankets® was founded by the sister duo, disabled combat veteran Barbara Jozwik Kent and award-winning teacher Joanna Jozwik Serra. They immigrated to the United States from Poland as children in 1988. Watching their mother work hard to provide for the family taught them that determination and hard work lead to success. Education was paramount, and both sisters pursued college degrees, starting conventional jobs immediately after graduation.
When their career paths changed, sewing projects for their children quickly evolved into a small business. Their parent company, Birdy Boutique, was established after their careers ended, with a strong commitment to keeping education at the forefront—a value that had significantly impacted their lives upon immigrating. Having come from disadvantaged school systems, they recognized the lack of funding for extracurricular activities, which inspired their passion and mission in education.
Beyond consumer and wholesale educational textiles, Birdy Boutique | Fundraiser Blankets has developed an initiative to support funding for schools nationwide. Months of planning and research resulted in a program that enables schools to fundraise affordably by offering useful and profitable items.
Their customized spirit blankets are gaining popularity among schools, providing significantly better value and profit margins compared to traditional overpriced snacks and plastic toys. The newest division, FundraiserBlankets.com™, allows schools to personalize blankets and sell them easily for high profits, raising funds for essential programs and resources. This initiative has quickly become the fastest-growing segment of the company.
Barbara and Joanna each have five children between them and are actively involved in their school and military communities through various charitable efforts. Through hard work and determination, they are committed to revolutionizing school and sports fundraising nationwide, believing that just one experience can change a child’s trajectory forever.
